While the DataDots concept might sound simple, it's actually a highly sophisticated, patented technology. DataDots are unique identification numbers encoded on polyester substrate to form microdots that act much like DNA. Each microdot measures approximately one millimeter (about the size of the tip of a pen) and can be sprayed or brushed onto an asset. While hundreds or even thousands of DataDots can mark an item, they are almost invisible to the naked eye. To view the codes, you must use an ultraviolet light source or a magnifying device.

Each individual ID system is registered on the DataDot International Database with the owner's contact information. When property is stolen and located, law enforcement can access the database to identify the registered owner and return property, regardless of where the property is recovered. DataDot Technology is also used to authenticate original products from counterfeit reproductions.
